NZATD Professional Membership Pathways

Holding individual, student, or group membership of NZATD provides you with options to be formally recognised within your field of practice through our professional membership pathway including:

  • Professional (MNZATD): To recognise your skill and expertise in the field
  • Fellowship (FNZATD): To recognise your ongoing professional contribution to Learning and Development
  • Life (LNZATD): To recognise your ongoing contribution to NZATD

Professional Membership Types

Professional Membership (MNZATD)

PROFESSIONAL Membership (MNZATD) is for those involved in one or more areas of training and development at a professional level, and who have had at least three (3) years’ experience in the field of training and development. 

Membership benefits:

  • In addition to standard benefits of being a member, professional members can use the nominal MNZATD after their name

Application criteria:

  • Be a current financial member of NZATD
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years’ continuous experience working in the L&D field, within the last four years
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of critical L&D practices and processes within your field of practice. This may include creating a work portfolio or a combination of a partial portfolio and National Certificate in Adult Education and Training (Level 4) or equivalent Learning and Development qualification.  For fields of practice, refer to the NZATD Competency Framework
  • Commit to the NZATD Code of Professional Practice
  • Proof of at least twenty (20) hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) within the past two years
  • Supply four referee statements

Getting started:

Maintaining membership:

This membership must be maintained every two years by:

  • Continuing to be a current financial member of NZATD
  • Providing proof of completion of 20 hours CPD every two years
  • Continuing to work within the learning field. If this is not possible, the member may be required to undertake an assessment of current competence every three years

Fellow (FNZATD)

Fellow membership (FNZATD) is for those working in an advisory or executive role at a senior professional level and who have had at least six (6) years’ experience in the field of training and development.

Membership benefits:

  • In addition to standard benefits of being a member, Fellowship members can use the nominal FNZATD after their name

Application criteria:

  • Must have been a Professional Member for at least three years
  • Be a current financial member of NZATD for the last four years, continuously
  • Must have a minimum of 6 years’ continuous experience working within the L&D field
  • Must have signed and demonstrated commitment to the NZATD Code of Professional Practice
  • Proof of at least twenty (20) hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) within the past two years
  • Must have served actively on an NZATD branch or the National Executive Committee for at least two years
  • Provide four supporting referee statements
  • Must have completed at least two (2) of the following within the past three years:
    • Published at least one L&D related article
    • Contributed to the NZATD On-Line Resource Library
    • Delivered a session at an NZATD branch meeting or NZATD conference (includes both online or face-to face)
    • Provided mentoring through the AITD/NZATD mentoring programme
    • Been a judge for the NZATD awards
    • Sat on an NZATD sub-committee or national project

Maintaining membership:

  • This membership must be maintained everyone two years by:
    • Continuing to be a current financial member of NZATD
    • Providing proof of completion of 20 hours CPD every two years
    • Continuing to work within the learning field. If this is not possible, the member may be required to undertake an assessment of current competence every three years

 

Life Member

Life Membership may be granted to individuals by the National Executive of the Association in recognition for outstanding contribution or services to the Association and/or to the practice of training and development.

Life membership can include Life members (LNZATD), Life Professional Members (LMNZATD) and Life Fellows (LFNZATD).

Membership benefits:

  • In addition to standard benefits of being a member, Fellowship members can use appropriate nominal after their name

Acceptance criteria:

Life Membership is a designation that only the National Executive can award. It is awarded to exceptional NZATD members for their service to the NZATD over many years. Life Members do not have to pay their annual membership fee.

It is expected that the Life Member will:

  • Have held membership of NZATD for at least twenty years
  • Have provided an outstanding contribution to the NZATD through many years of service at branch and National level, as well as providing coaching and mentoring to others
  • Have demonstrated an outstanding and continuing commitment to the Learning and Development profession, unmatched by most of their peers
  • Although a Life Member does not have to have been a Professional Member of NZATD, it would be unusual for them to have not achieved Professional Membership status and probably Fellow status

Maintaining membership:

  • There are no requirements for maintaining Life Membership. They do not pay annual membership.  There is no requirement to complete 20 hours of continuous professional development or continue to work within the field of learning.

Membership Post Nominals

Professional Members will be able to use the following designated post nominals:

  • Professional member – MNZATD
  • Fellow – FNZATD
  • Life Member – not holding professional membership – LNZATD
  • Life Member – holds professional membership LMNZATD
  • Life Fellow – holds a Fellowship of the Association – LFNZATD

Lapsed professional members, including those who have not maintained their membership of NZATD, are not permitted to use post nominals.
