The Human Edge
Honing Learning Design Skills in the Age of AI
Artificial intelligence is changing how we create learning, making content faster and easier to produce. But speed doesn't guarantee quality, and learning designers still need the judgement to tell whether AI has produced effective learning, or just convincing output.
This session explores why strong learning design skills matter more than ever, and how building our capability lets us use AI as a partner rather than a replacement.
It also introduces the thinking behind Like-Minded Learning's new Skill Builder courses, which help learning professionals develop practical, evidence-based skills to design learning that truly makes a difference.
AGENDA:
5:30 - 6:00pm: Networking, both in-person and online
6:00 - 7:00pm: Presentation and Q&A with Cathy Gillespie
Competency Framework: Instructional Design, On-the-Job Training, Adult Learning Principles, Learning and Development Practice.
Speaker: Cathy Gillespie
Cathy's background spans science and teaching, and she's now firmly focused on helping organisations apply quality learning design to their content.
In building her business, she took Like-Minded through B Corp Certification, making it the first organisation of its kind in New Zealand to achieve this — proof that the business runs ethically and sustainably, balancing purpose with profit.
With over 25 years' experience in learning and development, Cathy has seen the field change enormously. With face-to-face opportunities reduced, thanks to the pandemic, she helps organisations rebalance outsourcing against building internal capability, steers them clear of common pitfalls, and trains learning leaders and their teams to meet these new challenges. She's excited to share her thinking on what it takes to build a cohesive, purpose-driven team where quality of output is the central focus.
