Competency Framework: Learning and Development Practice, Assessment
Session Theme and Audience: In my kete - Current and aspiring L&D professionals & Intermediate and senior L&D professionals
Speaker:
Karen Gillie
Originally from Te whenua o ngati Palawa (Tasmania), Karen cut her teeth in the 90s working in crisis counselling. Like many L&D folk, her career started by accident when she was asked to develop victim support training for the Tasmanian Police Force. Focused on attitudinal change, developing this training sparked a fascination with how adults learn that has never left her. Since moving to New Zealand she has trained counsellors, lectured in Adult Learning at the Christchurch College of Education and worked in both embedded and consultancy L&D roles. From developing eLearning with Doctors at the CDHB to working alongside Army officers to build leadership training, Karen is fascinated by how we craft authentic and effective learning experiences. Karen acts as a judge for multiple NZATD awards categories and was the 2024 Learning Practitioner of the Year.
