This session focuses on integrating Māori pedagogical methods—ako (reciprocal learning) and tuakana-teina (mentor-mentee)—into professional development settings. Themes include collaboration, cultural inclusivity, and mentorship, aimed at fostering environments that support and empower Māori learners.
The purpose of this session is to provide educators working with adults in professional development contexts with practical tools and strategies for creating culturally responsive learning environments. By applying Māori teaching methods, educators can enhance learner engagement, build collaborative relationships, and improve knowledge retention, particularly for Māori learners.
Outcomes:
-
Understanding Māori Pedagogy: Participants will gain a clear understanding of ako and tuakana-teina and how these methods can be applied to adult learning environments.
-
Practical Application: Participants will leave with actionable strategies for incorporating reciprocal learning and mentorship into their training programs.
-
Empowerment of Māori Learners: Educators will learn how to create more inclusive learning environments that honor and elevate Māori cultural strengths, leading to better outcomes for Māori learners in professional settings.
This session is designed to inspire and equip educators to make their professional development programs more culturally responsive.
