Holding space for a group requires a certain degree of confidence and 'presence'. When you're at the front of the room or delivering L&D learning experiences online, while our primary focus is facilitation and imparting knowledge, there is always an element of 'presenting' that is required. What we say and how we say it makes a difference.
In this session, Carly will share some simple tips for effectively using your voice and body language in your role as a facilitator of learning, in person and online. This is a highly interactive session; you will need: 1 - A rubber band. 2 - A Children's book. 3 - A scrap piece of paper. 4 - Your mobile phone.
Competency Framework: Facilitation
Speaker: Carly Shorter (Communicate Powerfully)
Born in Whanganui, hailing from the Hutt Valley and based in Tauranga for over 20 years, Carly spent 14 years entertaining the airwaves as a radio presenter across New Zealand and in Australia. In 2010 she left the radio industry and launched her own public speaking training company. Soon after, she was asked to take on a role as a national sales manager, where she inherited a team of regional managers across NZ. It was this leadership opportunity that gave her insights into how to lead people, motivate, and drive a team’s performance using the magic wand of effective communication and strengths. Within two and a half years, the organisation doubled in size and Carly realised her true passion was in supporting people to have conversations that matter. With this insight she went back into her own business in 2015 - now called ‘Communicate Powerfully’ and in 2023 launched the card deck, ‘Below the Surface’.
Carly’s on a mission to support people to make meaningful connections and have conversations that matter – she travels the country working with amazing organisations and local government to deliver effective communication skills training.
